Dylan Pinder
The Dylan Pinder Benefit Softball Tournament began 7 years ago to help a young man who was born with Spina Bifida in 1998. His father, John Pinder, a fireman for the City of Raleigh, NC began this tournament to help pay for the cost that he was going to incur for the care of Dylan. Dylan has had 22 surgeries including his lastest surgery back in December 2008. Dylan has been treated at various facilities including Duke Hospital, Chapel Hill Hospital, The Shiners Hospital and Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis.
Dylan Pinder and Hurricane Players

Dylan is a 4th grader at Micro-Pine Level Elementary School. Dylan has no funcation from the waist down and uses a wheelchair for long distance functions. Dylan has no control of his bowel system or urinary system. Dylan also has a condition know as Hydrocephalus or water of the brain which has to be drained into abdomen bya tube called a shunt. Spina Bifida is a condition where the spine does not completely develop early on in pregnancy. Spina Bifida can be surgically closed but the nerve damage is permanent. Spina Bifida is the most common neural tube birth defect affecting 1500 to 2000 babies a year throughout the country. The exact cause of Spina Bifida still remains a mystery in the medical field.

The tournament for Dylan began as a result of friends of the softball world pulling together to hold the 1st annual Dylan Pinder Benfit in Selma, NC on one field. Through the years, the benefit tournament has become USSSA sanctioned and very poplar in North Carolina. The event has grown in size and thus has moved to Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh, NC. We are looking for the tournament to grow every year and all proceeds for the tournament go directly to Dylan Pinder to pay for his medical expenses. Dylan looks forward to seeing you at the ball park in years to come.
